The Rakes are trying to get through. They’re rushing, rushing and bombing and weaving. They’re pushing ahead, avoiding the crowds. They’ve got a place to reach, a message to pass on. But there’s stuff in their way. Traffic. Strangers punting street hassle (give’s that pizza. What kind of mobile you got?). The network’s down. A disruption on the line (underground and telephone). The arteries at the heart of the city are clogged. But they’re up for it, no matter how much they’re ground down by the daily grind. They’ve got the drive. The Rakes will get... [more]

"We've always wanted to be as big as The Beatles," boasts Oli Main, The Pigeon Detectives' lead guitarist and songwriter-in-chief. "I'm sure it'd do our heads in, yeah, but I'd rather be that big than be no one. We want to get as big as we possibly can."
"Anyone in a band who says they're not bothered about any of that is a liar," agrees singer Matt Bowman. "It totally matters."
"We just want to be rich and famous,' Oli continues. "It's not about the music at all."
The Pigeon Detectives are, of course, joking...at least about that last bit. After all, you can't fake the sort of rabid energy that fuels their million-miles-an-hour live shows, and you certainly don't write as many songs that so perfectly encapsulate what it feels like to be an 18-year-old whose world revolves almost solely around attractive members of the opposite sex and getting drunk as they have without living exactly that sort of life 24 hours a day, seven days a week... Drive for an hour so outside Glasgow, you'll find an unassuming little town called Ayr. It's a pretty but unremarkable place; certainly not the sort of place you expect revolutions to start. But then, if we know anything about revolutions, it's that they never happen quite when or where you expect.
You'll have heard of biffy clyro before of course. About how Simon Neil and schoolfriend twins James and Ben Johnston formed their first band as young teenagers at school... [more]

In early 2003 four standard geezers from St. Albans City, a standard area just north of London, formed a band.
They formed a band that they hoped would reignite unity into the music scene and ultimately into people lives. And this was no hidden agenda as they started by fusing many different genres and styles together to form their own sound. They essentially mould together the passion of hardcore and punk with the passion of euphoria and trance amongst many other... [more]

Blood Red Shoes is two people, Laura-Mary, who wishes she were Spanish, and Steven who wishes he were French, only they both live in Brighton on the south coast of England. After their previous bands ceased activity (Lady Muck and Cat On Form respectively) in late 2004 they got together for a jam for fun, Steven took up the drum kit and Laura-Mary played her guitar. It was loud for just two people.
That day the first song was written (with no singing), someone asked them to play in two weeks’ time, they stayed up all night emailing each other... [more]
